The Special Technology Zones Authority Act, 2021 received assent from President Arif Alvi on 6th October 2021 and was promulgated as an Act of the Parliament. STZA has been set up to ensure the development of scientific and technological ecosystem through development of zones to accelerate technology development in the country. The purpose of the STZA Act is to provide institutional and legislative support for the technology sector with internationally competitive and export-oriented structures and eco-systems, to attract foreign direct investment, develop collaborative eco-system connecting academia, research and technology industry.
This ordinance is taken into effect by the President Mr. Arif Alvi in 2020, to ensure the development of scientific and technological ecosystem through development of zone to accelerate technology development in the country and explains the functions of STZA comprehensively.
The Special Technology Zones Authority (Qualification and Approval) Rules, 2021 provide the framework for licensing, approval, categorization and administration of Zone Enterprises and Zone Developers. The Qualification and Approval Rules were notified with the approval of the Federal Government on 28th July 2021.
